A program for persons with history of stroke, heart attack, TIA (mini-stroke), angina or risk factors for stroke and heart attack. Persons can register for this free 2-hour class offered on the 4th Monday every other month at 1pm. Participants will learn about risk factors, nutiriton and healthy eating, exercise and activity, and what happens to the body during a heart attack or stroke. Available at Yarmouth Regional Hospital, Digby Hospital, Roseway Hospital and the Clare Health Centre via telehealth.
The sessions are FREE and intended for persons who may have experienced a stroke, heart attack, angina or TIA (transient ischemic attack). It is also for persons who may have risk factors for heart disease and stroke, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, stress, smoking, excessive alcohol and others can increase your risk for heart disease, stroke and kidney disease. The health event may have occurred recently or many months or years ago.
You may wish to bring a friend or family member – they are welcome to attend the sessions with you.
What to expect
Sessions are repeated every other month, therefore you only need to attend one session. The sessions are designed to assist you and your family learn more about your condition and help you find ways to manage your risk factors.
Each session covers topics specifically related to cardiovascular disease by health professionals with an opportunity for questions.
Sessions are FREE, informal and offered on the 4th Monday of every second month, 1pm-3:30pm at sites within the tri-county area:
